The "Winds of Change" ...

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy has been discussing it for some time now - and regardless of political spin or no (see Mom - I'm not touching this :)) it's pretty obvious that within the last few years our weather patterns have gotten mighty unpredictable. YES - we've never been able to trust that Mother Nature wouldn't take us for an "unexpected spin" or spout a terrible volacano - but at least within recent time (100 years) - 2 things have changed for the Appalachian Trail: 1) TECHNOLOGY has made long distance hiking easier for millions of prospective long distance hikers and 2) WEATHER patterns have made it a bit sticky.

On Monday, August 21, 2017 the U.S. will witness a Solar Eclipse. TOP OF GEORGIA HOSTEL AND HIKING CENTER will be one of the locations along a thin band across the United States that actually witness a FULL SOLAR ECLIPSE. TOG is an AMAZING location to witness this event ; located high in the mountains of North Georgia and surrounded by the beauty of the Chattahoochee National Forest. A Solar Eclipse event in the U.S. has not happened since 1918 and the next will not occur until 2024 (making it for many a TRUE "once in a lifetime" event) ! Our "Partial Eclipse Phase" will begin at 2:06 pm EST and the full eclipse (TOTAL DARKNESS) will begin at 2:35pm and last for 2 minutes and 27 secs. CONTACT US TO INQUIRE ABOUT OUR "ECLIPSE ACTIVITIES AND SPECIALS" !

Gary and Lennie had been considering closing for some years - but (according to them) - the opening of the TOG was ACTUALLY an answer to their prayers. With us to take care of hikers in the region now - they were "let off the hoo...
