OUR MISSION:

To introduce people to the joys and benefits of outdoor hiking through education, hospitality, and unique family outdoors experiences; and to promote responsible stewardship of the earth's natural resources on and beyond the Appalachian Trail.

President / Director: Bob Gabrielsen - Hiawassee, GA

The Top of Georgia Hiking Center is a one of a kind school, community resource, discount gear center, think-tank and landmark - located only a 5 minute walk from the Appalachian Trail in the North Georgia mountains. We partner with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and local authorities as a trail rescue center.

As with all non-profits, fundraising is a necessary, on-going effort for us .

BUT THIS YEAR - nature threw us a "curve-ball". The Center is currently reeling from the impact of a historic summer of drought and wildfires. This unexpected natural catastrophe forced authorities to close 70 miles of the Appalachian Trail adjacent to our facility. The wildfires came within 2 miles of our Center and put us into pre-evacuation status. Hiker traffic to our center came to a standstill. Water sources dried up and the closure halted any hiking in the area .

We are seeking tax deductible donations.

Even now hope springs anew, and the rains are beginning to come. The Appalachian Trail will heal and again be full of hikers. Right now though, Top of Georgia Hiking Center is in a financial drought.

The board of directors and I know that those who love the trail and who may have stayed at TOG will consider making a tax deductible donation to this important program.

Please consider making a contribution now and help us through this crisis. (You can make a secure contribution with a credit or debit card by clicking on this link ... You do not need a PayPal acct to make a payment here. Donors at $50 or more will recieve a contribution letter. Your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law)
